Container is a first-class connection kind. Inspect containers, images, volumes, and networks; follow logs and stats; exec into a shell; pull with progress; and restart without leaving the workbench.

Kubernetes GUI

Workloads, pods, services, config, storage, RBAC, events, Helm, CRDs, and YAML apply sit next to the databases and terminals those services use.

Exec, debug, and port-forward

Open an exec session, attach a debug container, or port-forward a Service without a separate cluster dashboard. Those actions are license-gated.

Logs and metrics where the query is

Follow container and pod logs beside the SQL, API call, or File Manager that led you there. Lifecycle actions refresh the affected row instead of the whole list.

No management server to deploy

Mongrel talks to the Docker/Podman socket or kubeconfig you already have. There is no extra control plane to install for local work.

Does Mongrel manage Docker, Podman, and Kubernetes?

Yes. New Connection → Container picks Docker, Podman, or Kubernetes. Docker and Podman cover lifecycle, logs, exec, and file browsing. Kubernetes covers workloads, pods, services, storage, RBAC, events, Helm, YAML apply, exec, debug containers, and port-forwarding.

Do I need to deploy Portainer or another management server?

No. Mongrel is a local desktop workbench. It uses your existing Docker or Podman engine and kubeconfig. It is not a multi-tenant cluster control plane.

Is pulling images license-free?

Image pull uses the same connect chokepoint as other Docker work and is not a separate free-tier path. Exec, Kubernetes exec, port-forward, and debug actions are license-gated.

Can I exec into a container or pod from Mongrel?

Yes. Docker exec and Kubernetes exec open in the workbench. Restart retries compose dependency races and refreshes the affected rows instead of refetching the entire list.
